The problem
Senses let people, called hosts, sell their time over video: paid one-to-one calls, and live streams to many viewers at once. Hosts could be influencers talking to their fans, life coaches, or experts in any field. Calls are billed by the minute, at a rate each host sets. There is no public catalog of hosts: each one shares a direct link to their profile, so they choose who reaches them and keep control of their own reputation.
The approach
The project started as an idea. I built it from zero as the only developer, working directly with the founder: React on the frontend, Node.js with AdonisJS on the backend. The video runs on WebRTC through a hosted service and covers both formats: private one-to-one calls, and streams where one host broadcasts to many viewers.
The billing runs in real time: every minute of a call is charged at the host's rate, with payments handled through Stripe. The interface is responsive, so hosts and callers can use it on any device.
The outcome
In twelve months, Senses went from an idea to a live platform, with the streaming, the billing and the app all built by one developer. The company later shut the platform down for business reasons.
