The problem
La Poste's sales teams presented offers to clients as PowerPoint decks, and every deck was built by hand. For each new offer, someone had to find the existing presentations, pull out the right slides and assemble them again, almost from scratch. Producing one deck took five days.
The approach
The app lets a user build an offer by dragging and dropping bricks, each one representing a service. The offer is saved so it can be reused later, and exported as a PowerPoint deck that the sales team presents to the client. As tech lead of a team of three, I worked across the whole application: React on the frontend, Node.js with Fastify on the backend.
The export was the hardest part. The app turns each offer into an HTML page with a dynamic layout, driven by a large set of display rules. It renders that page in Chromium, captures it as an image, and inserts the image into a PowerPoint template.
That approach set two constraints. The HTML render had to be pixel perfect, because a layout off by a few pixels no longer fit the PowerPoint template. And the export had to be optimised so that generating a deck stayed fast.
The outcome
Producing an offer deck went from five days to thirty minutes. Teams now build an offer from existing bricks instead of rebuilding slides, and the catalog held more than 400 offers at handover.
Key achievements
01 //
Automation
Developed a robust catalog management system from scratch.
02 //
Productivity Boost
Created an automated PowerPoint (PPTX) presentation generator directly within the app, drastically reducing the time teams spent on manual document creation.
